COMMUNITY

BOOK CLUB

I'd like to introduce myself to you, the TCC and Norton Community. I'm Jeff Alderson and I am happy to be participating as Historian for TCC and felt I'd like to offer a book and mixed media club to the community.

First, I'd like to start with Rob Bell's "What is the Bible?" This book will help to open up scripture in new ways, especially for those who are jaded from dogma, or gloss over the Bible for perhaps its lack of current-day relevance. Now, who is Rob Bell? He was the pastor of a megachurch called Mars Hill Bible Church in Michigan until 2012. However, since leaving pastoring, Rob has been influential in making ancient traditions and theologies very relevant while publicly wrestling with the moniker of "Christian". His 2011 book "Love Wins" was extremely controversial for its inclusiveness and questioning of modern church doctrine. He hosts the RobCast, a podcast series running since 2015, and has written prolifically, including his latest piece, "Everything is Spiritual".  In the future, I want to offer many choices and the voice of the group to guide what books we read.

You can read a preview here.

Just sign-up in the form and I'll get us together in the preferred manner. The book is available to buy, but you can borrow digitally in Audiobook or E-book form using the Hoopla app from the Norton Public Library.

Let's read! Hoping to see you soon!
Jeff
